New poll shows Tory lead at 13 points

Brown and Darling….not a lot to smile about

The Slog has been saying for three months that the polls overstate main-party voting intentions. The Angus Reid methodology does this less than most

Although Angus Reid headlines its latest poll (fieldwork finished last night) ‘Tory lead cut’ to 13 points, it has always shown lower scores for both Parties – especially Labour.
But these new figures still make grim reading for the remaining loons who want the return of a Labour Government: Labour (25%), Tories (38%) and Libdems (19%) is the topline.
While it’s fascinating to note that fully one third of the Nation now rejects both the ‘major’ Parties, in the last by-election at Norwich NE this figure rose two two thirds after abstentions…most of which were among traditional Labour voters.

As we said last week, in reality Brown hasn’t a hope in Hell of being returned to power based on these numbers. And as revealed here on Monday, private Tory polls show the Conservatives way ahead in the marginals.

Yesterday’s Slog piece
had Gordon suitably confused about what to do. Pity the poor devils in Downing Street working with him after this news….
