OFFICIAL: SLOG SCOOP ON FITCH DOWNGRADING OF UK CREDIT RATING WAS RIGHT

Some five weeks after The Slog revealed credit-ratings agency Fitch had already decided to downgrade Britain’s credit status, the story has been confirmed by Reuters.

It was February 2nd when The Slog ran a story about Fitch sources leaking an effective downgrading of the UK’s credit status.

Now the Reuters news agency today got official confirmation of the piece:

‘Britain’s sovereign credit profile has deteriorated but the country was still within tolerance of a triple-A rating, Fitch Ratings said on Tuesday. Brian Coulton, Fitch’s head of Europe, Middle East and Africa sovereign ratings, told a conference in London the UK needed stronger fiscal adjustment, adding the rating agency was “uncomfortable with the fiscal adjustment path set out by UK authorities.”‘

Slog stories since then have pointed out how the credit markets are pre-empting the agencies anyway.
