EXCLUSIVE: Now Bercow Buckingham opponent endorsed by Martin Bell

SUNDAY TIMES RUMOURED TO BE CLOSE TO SPLASHING NEW BERCOW REVELATIONS

Local Buckingham sources confirmed to The Slog this morning that Man-in-White Martin Bell is to endorse Independent Democracy candidate John Stevens, and campaign for him in the constituency on an anti-corruption ticket. This is a major blow for Speaker candidate John Bercow, who is already facing strong opposition from UKIP leader Nigel Farage. As Stevens will attract large numbers of Libdem voters (and Farage is attractive to the Right) their stealing of votes – added to local anti-Bercow candidate Patrick Phillips – makes the recently appointed Speaker’s position there precarious in the extreme.

And in a separate development, The Slog has learned that a Sunday Times investigative team is close to publication of an in-depth feature focusing on hitherto unreported allegations concerning John Bercow. The Slog hinted some weeks back that further revelations of a nature damaging to Bercow’s cause would emerge.

Today, a Commons source added, “It’d save us all here a lot of trouble if Bercow loses, as even if he gets back in, there’ll be an early move to depose him”.

Meanwhile, an increasingly desperate Bercow is resorting to ‘NIMBY’ tactics by campaigning hard in villages potentially affected by the proposed high-speed rail link.

“It’s typical Bercow” said an opponent, “He holds these meetings in the rail-link villages, and says how much more influence he’ll have to change minds in Parliament about this sort of thing as Speaker. It’s complete poppycock – he doesn’t have any constitutional power to influence such decisions at all”.
