LibDem denials of STV sellout and Clegg’s history show conclusively that they’re just the same as all the rest
There is shock in all quarters this afternoon that Nick Clegg has been pocketing Party donations. But The Slog posted this piece on February 10th about ‘unnatural ways’ of getting LibDem MPs’ expenses recycled into Party donations – in short, using the taxpayer to inadvertantly fund a political Party.
Nobody picked it up – but then, that’s nothing new. Once spotted, the shredding machines and trail-covering sand went into full operation. All we have in these latest revelations about Nick’s somewhat cavalier attitude to private and Party funds is another variation on people evading tax in order to boost both Party coffers and personal lifestyles.
The Slog’s original piece about the new unexistence of proportional representation was as you’ll remember treated with the usual condescending smarm one has come to expect from Party HQ pr boys. But this too is obviously true. It was in fact prefaced by a piece from Stephen Tall, leading Libdem light, on the LibDemVoice website last February 11th. In the piece, Tall admits that ‘A PoliticsHome poll this week suggested 42% of the public would vote to keep first-past-the-post, with 37% backing the alternative vote (AV) system’. Well then, better not go down that route, eh?
Nor should we be surprised by the LibDem weapons of mass distortion during elections, and Nick’s former life as a lobbyist. As we said here last week, Nick is a dyed-in-the-wool Eurocrat academic professional politico from the mass-made mould.
He’s about as likely to change the face of British politics as Gordon Brown is to give up lying for a living. And David Cameron’s job tonight is to make that clear.
