The Slog’s original story about Lloyd Blankfein vowing revenge on President Obama is being corroborated by US sources.
For obvious (mainly litigious) reasons, none of the mainstream media picked this up. But as of this afternoon UK time, two American sources have contacted The Slog – having read an excellent Washington Post piece about Democrat election fund shortfalls – to say that on their reading (and following interim discussions with others about the two articles) the evidence is moving beyond hearsay.
Our original source – a Goldman insider – told us that Blankfein would be “hard at work ensuring that Wall St doesn’t give the Democrats a red cent towards his re-election”. Today’s corroboration comes from elsewhere. The Post itself mentions the Goldman boss, but only in passing: ‘Lloyd Blankfein, chief executive and chairman of Goldman Sachs, has not donated to the Democrats, either, after giving $50,000 in the previous two cycles. A company spokesman declined to comment.’
“There’s something fundamental going on, which is a complete disaffection with the committees,” said one New York donor in the finance industry who raised about $3 million for Democrats in the 2008 cycle. And the New York location (where Blankfein works) is the centrepoint of the Democrats’ problem – as confirmed by the Post, which notes ‘The DSCC has seen a 69 percent decrease in contributions from the New York area’.
So allegedly, Mr Blankfein is not a man to cross. Whether he will retain the liberty to be this damaging to the Democratic Party remains a matter for the American judicial system.
