An agnostic offers a biblical quote

I came across this reference today. Normally, I leave this sort of stuff to Dot Cotton; but this one struck home as an aspiration which does not require belief in Gods

‘No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had. There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need.’ -Acts 4:31-35

It would be nice to think that Man could still look up to the skies in this manner. G K Chesterton famously said (in 1913) that “Men only invent new principles when they can’t live up to the old ones” – so clearly this is not a new problem. But per adua ad astra remains in place, and it is quite right that it should.
