ISLAM: The persecution of Molly Norris is a crime against humanity.

The gifted cartoonist Molly Norris is alive and well, despite having a fatwah issued against her by the Sons of Allah. But on the insistence of FBI security specialists, she is, as they say in the States, “going ghost”: moving, changing her name, and essentially wiping away her identity. She will no longer be publishing cartoons in the columns of her employer the Seattle Weekly, where she has been a regular contributor. She is, in effect, being put into a witness-protection programme—except, as she notes, without the government picking up the tab. And it’s all because of the fatwa issued against her this summer, following her infamous Draw Mohammed Day.

Norris views the situation with her customary sense of the world’s absurdity. She likens the situation to cancer—it might basically be nothing, it might be urgent and serious, it might go away and never return, or it might pop up again when she least expects it.

I have watched over the last few weeks, with grudging admiration for the American tradition of free worship in relation to the Ground Zero/Mosque controversy. Freedom of Worship was the basis upon which the Yanks left England on the Mayflower in the first place.

And now this.

As always, of course, this isn’t the will of moderate Muslims. But they do tend to go along with what the nutters do. They do tend to defend this kind of stuff by saying that we’re just as bad.

I think these excuses are bollocks. There is nothing and nobody in Western Christianity who would disrupt somebody’s life in this manner. And please, spare me the ‘what about Iraq and Afghanistan’ stuff: that has nothing whatever to do with the Christian religion.

Sooner or later, the West is going to have to wake up to the fact that the Fatwahistas are our generation’s Nazis. Only their complete eradication will solve the problem. And only a complete and unqualified disassociation from them by the Islamic mainstream will hasten the demise of these latter-day mediaeval bigots.
