Jeremy Hunt’s decision should be a no-brainer
Yesterday the Competition Commission asserted that BSkyB is making ‘excessive profits not justified by the risks taken’.
This follows a similar Commission conclusion in 2010, when it accused the media company of profiteering via the sales of exclusive sports programming to other TV contractors.
So what we’re looking at here, to summarise, is a blatantly profiteering corporate entity getting into bed with a blatantly criminal news company.
Knowing Murdoch’s track-record of dirty deeds, it wouldn’t surprise me (if the deal does go through) to see Newscorp continuing its privacy invasion while adding all monitoring costs to your mobile phone bill. Don’t laugh: I’d imagine the major phoneco ISPs would see this as fair game.
Culture Minister Jeremy Hunt can take only one decision. If he doesn’t, a massive political furore will follow. This continues to be a fascinating scandal.
