The Slog shows what subversion of Net neutrality means
Random checks by Slog readers (and The Slog himself) have confirmed in the last week that Google subsidiary Blogger has broken links between the old Slog site there, and the newer one here at WordPress. The Slog moved from Blogger last November in protest at Google’s anti-net neutrality deal with Verizon.
The link-breakage contravenes Google’s terms of site transfer, and breaks the still-existent contract between The Slog and the internet giant.
In addition, despite this site being far more popular at WordPress, googling The Slog takes one only to the old site at Blogspot – even if one types in ‘the slog at wordpress’.
The Slog this afternoon reposted a repaired link at the old Blogspot site. If the link is broken again, we would ask readers to report this.
Those who don’t understand ‘Net neutrality’ can surely understand this example of what will follow its abandonment. Google ‘Yahoo’, for example, and the connection can take up to 20 minutes: this for a site getting over 23 million hits a day. The ‘game’ is yet another classic example of customers’ freedom of choice being screwed by big business sharp practice – leading eventually to monopolism.
