BLOG AWARDS: Slogging up the ratings

It’s that time of year again. Iain Dale’s organ is once more open for votes for the Total Politics Blog Awards. The link to this process is:

As usual with Iain, it looks to me like the admin so far is a bit of a dog’s dinner: but it’s been up for 3 days now and the glitches, I’m told, have been sorted. So please feel free to go there and vote for The Slog.

Although it isn’t acknowledged, it looks to me like the old system of different types of blogs has been ditched. This suits me, as although this site came 38th among ‘right wing blogs’ last year, I prefer to think of the Slog as ‘unaligned’ under the existing terminology.

Anyway let’s go! Let’s grapple Guido into second place! Let’s push Peston down the ratings! Lets kick rubber and burn ass. Or something.

Sorry, being an unaligned reader I regard “awards” as meaningless as the Top Ten int he musical charts is representative of the musical taste of the population. Keep pulling the punters in with meaningful, well thought out pieces – that should be your reward!

I could not exit unless I chose a category for each ‘Blank’.
Let’s hope your competitors’ supporters simply give up.

Strikes me that voting for you and then writing blank in the next 4 boxes will make the vote ineligible,as it says that you can put blank in AFTER the first 5: “Your votes must be ranked from 1 to 10. The higher you rank a blog or author, the higher up they will appear in the aggregated results. You must enter a minimum of five names for your vote to count. If you don’t want to enter more than five, just write ‘blank’ in the remaining boxes. Every box must have some text in for the vote to be submitted successfully.”

As others have noted, this makes a mockery of the whole thing as only those saddoes with nothing better to do than peruse numerous political blogs all day will be able to register a vote that counts. And who will they be? Ah, yes, the corrupt political class that’s cauing all the problems……

What a nonsense! Who reads five UK political blogs that are required to vote?. Only poor anoraks without a life like Iain Dale. Most of us have livings to earn and wider horizons than these sceptered (septic?) isles. Hope you win John, you deserve recognition for the work you do but I am afraid these results will be manipulated and corrupted like everything else these days.

JW, as a relative newcomer to your site I too have become so enthusiastic that I have voted having never even thought of doing so before (on the web you understand). But you’ll end up exhausted keeping up this standard if I’m to be persuaded to do it again, what a soppy set up for voting on anything. I assume it is an attempt to engineer or manipulate results but could be wrong.

I did try, but when I got asked to have to select a category for almost 20 blank boxes, I gave up. Until I feel a bit more patient another time!

Good grief, it takes dedication to vote. I’m afraid I expressed my views on the process in the two boxes at the bottom…

And I put all sorts of ridiculous alignments in the categories boxes, as you could have 3.

Was this designed for the Civil Service? There seems to be a lot of box ticking but no real output! ts probably funded through our tax money too ;) You got my vote I’m expecting a wad ocash in a brown envelope, or at least my moat cleaned on expenses.

What a palaver, if you don’t want to vote for anyone else you have to type blank, you also have to give a category for blank,

I cast a vote for you, but please do not expect me to do this any more – the interface on that site is truly terrible. I don’t want to have to go through that again. Much as I respect you and your work, there is just so much pain a person will endure.
