Here’s a selection of things we’re all going to need to get us through the next few years:
resourcefulness, ingenuity, adaptability, shrewdness, clarity, selflessness, entrepreneurialism, ethics, radicalism, reality, direction, firmness, determination
How many people in the White House, the Cabinet, the EU Commission, the Elysees or the Chancellery have any of these?
It’s a worthwhile question to ask. A tad academic, perhaps, given that very little real power resides in such places any more.
But then, if they had more of those qualities, they’d have more power. More important than power, they’d have authority.
It’s the latter that really counts. And that’s what they don’t have.
