SEPP BLATTER: Is he a Swiss cuckoo or what?

Blatter…eye on the ball at last

I wonder how many Sloggers have noticed that blatant bad goal-line calls are no reason to introduce camera technology into football…until a wrongly disallowed goal against England is involved.

At that point, Sepp Blatter suddenly decides that goal-line technology is “an absolute necessity”.

Hell hath no fury like a crooked bastard found out by the British media.

it wasn´t a wrongly disallowed goal – it was offside build up play
but the week kneed FA are not pointing this out, just letting everybody get on to Englands case as “lucky”
Even Gerrard is calling it “payback” time
“Payback” time and luck Stevie, you will need should you beat italy and face Germany in the semis – save it ´til then

If you look at the goal line official, he has no chance of telling if the ball crossed the line. An artist or scientist will tell you about the perspective from his view. The front post is so close that the diameter appears much greater than the far post, therefore totally obscuring it, he was also slightly pitch side , if I remember rightly, therefore is not in the right position to see if the whole ball crossed the line. Also to consider is that the ball is white, the post is white, the goal line is white, I think Terry’s boot is white and possibly in the distance were white England shirts, therefore his decision is entirely predictable. Stick to controversy, it keeps life interesting.
It is good to see Bladder doing a U turn though.

on related matters, i seem to recall there was some grousing ‘n grumbling about the fact that a ukrainian opposition politician is rotting in prison whilst fascist football hooligans run rampant on the terraces…but observers will note that, unlike in poland, there have been no instances of such violence and racism recorded at the ukrainian fixtures – presumably because the authorities, having taken the criticism on-board and consulted their equal opportunities policy, “did the only thing” and booted all the yobs into detention too, subsequently forcing the sequestered-fans to watch the whole of euro 2012 on a giant screen in the canteen.

i somehow admire the ukrainian pragmatism, which has effectively pulled the rug from beneath the feet of the hypocritical western politicians, who are still bleating on about their wet-dream of human-rights, which have as yet never materialized, either in europe, or the united states. nevertheless, to reach the high standard of public service required in order to justify the award of a european charter-mark for true democracy, i feel that ukraine, the united kingdom, et al must go the hole hog and summarily lock-up every elected politician of every persuasion, together with each of their mandarins, major and minor…

…now that’s what i call liberty.

Actually that’s not quite true. Mr Blatter opposed goal line technology up until Frank Lampard’s goal was ignored in the 2010 World cup meeting between England and Germany. Since then he has been actively promoting the use of goal line technology and FIFA have been testing suitable products.

His tweet merely reinforced his position prior to these finals taking place and to overcome some residual opposition within FIFA to the proposed changes.
It’s been widely reported since 2010.

The interim use of Arsene Wenger trained fifth officials specifically to alleviate such issues was the brain child of Monsieur Platini.
