Now that Grogee Orbnose is on his feet trying to suggest progress, we do now have official figures from the ONS….the one truly independent source that Camerlot can’t nobble. Ozzie will misquote it, of course, so think of what follows as a Truthometer.
These are the main points:
* Yes, there was growth in Q3. BUT ‘the UK economy grew by 0.8% in the third quarter of 2013, unrevised from the Preliminary Estimate.’ So there is no evidence of the ‘growth spurt’ bigged up during Monday and Tuesday this week.
* Yes, GDP rose by 1.8% during the latest three quarters BUT ‘this is broadly similar to expansion between Q3 2009 and Q2 2010 – when the UK was recovering from the depth of the economic downturn.’ Or put another way, the trend today is unchanged from the situation the Coalition inherited in May 2010.
* Yes, the labour market continued to show resilience in the three months to September BUT ‘a comparison with 2009-10 shows that Real Household Disposable Income per capita remains at the same level first achieved in 2005, largely reflecting falls in real hourly wage.’
George isn’t using the ONS data at all. Let’s see of Teddie Testicles notices in his response
