Lord McAlpine’s family has announced that he died last night aged 71.
This could have either or both of two effects.
1. Canonisation of McAlpine by the censorious and the anti-Beeb brigade.
2. An outbreak of good riddance from the gutless Red Brigade.
Both would be regrettable.
