GQ – I can understand your sense of frustration to what you perceive as the angry ramblings of an uncaring mob. Our sensibilities are formed by our own perceptions and sense of truth. I am genuinely sorry that you feel this way.
The only things I would like to point out and ask you to consider are that, for instance, Queen Liz has been (from many varied sources) been quoted as one of the richest people on the planet. Her lineage has dominated throughout Europe for centuries and she herself has many financial interests – from minerals (Rio Tinto) through to the arms industry and depleted uranium. She is NOT just a figure head, good for tourism etc etc – she is the prevaiing head of a highly privileged and entrenched dynasty. There are an awful lot of resources to examine if you truly would like the truth – I don’t know if you will but I genuinely feel that if we are to evolve as a species we need to confront some inconvenient truths. You well well start with the royal links to Savile and go from there … And she will only ever step down if she deems it politic.

By the way, the queen and all of her predecessors don’t do the job for the love of the nation. They do it because of a misplaced sense of entitlement that stretches all the way back to them stating that they were gods representatives on earth. Or other wise known as “baffling arrogance”

They aren’t a quaint tourist attraction. They are parasites. Every one of them.

And yes they may not have a lot of “cash” on hand (doubtful but I’ll play along) but when you own vast swathes of land and the majority of the UKs forestry (to name just 2) a few notes in your wallet is less of a concern.

Good luck in the future with removing your head from your a**.

I would far rather have a constitutional monarch waiting in the wings to be called upon by the people, than some fake, unaccountable republic set-up run by the Westminster cowboys.
This Queen won’t abdicate, she promised to stick it out. I reckon she understands exactly what is going on, and what she might have to do to destroy the establishment one day.
Do you think it was just to get a day out for her when she demanded to see the gold vaults?

Doesn’t make me a royalist, just telling you why we have this unusual system.

I don’t think the Queen will be stepping down (abdicating) just yet, she only has a couple of years to go before she beats Victoria.
I think she is cutting down on the amount of public engagements because Phil just isn’t up to it any more.

With such comments as these above, it is easy to see why Great Britain is now a cesspit of envy, greed and deep rift!
I am a ‘peasant’, and I do not envy the Queen’s life one bit. The thing she has, that I admire, is a sense of tradition, albeit evolving. She cannot run off with the crown jewels, say ‘sod you lot’ and disappear into the wide blue yonder like 99% of the elite in the world can do; rich in name, but hand-tied to a title. She has served this ungrateful country as she promised, her husband at her side, and I wonder just how many days she wanted to tell everyone to clear off and let her have a duvet day.
What she is, is a figure head, which millions of people across the world respect. She has NO control; THAT is, and has always been in the hands of the advisors, privy council etc. I bet she has less free cash than Camoron and Millipede at her disposal if she did a runner.
Charles’ Duchy is lent to each ‘next-in -line’, and is now going to be William’s to look after…..cos he’s a leech too,hey, never having done any good whilst a helicopter rescue pilot of course (all lies), and how bloody dare he go to re-train in estate management for a few weeks, we’d all much rather he ran it into the ground wouldn’t we!
If Hollande and the fridge magnet are our better options, I’ll leave you men to your short-sighted aspirations.
I am so disgusted with you all, I am off. Nice while it lasted JW, thanks.
I am queen in my garden, can look myself in the mirror, and await the re-set button.

I think the Monarchy has had it’s day. If you look closely at the footage of the last Royal Wedding you will see (even though the footage was cleverly edited to hide it) that the pavements weren’t full of well wishers, in most places maybe only one or two people deep, Diana’s funeral was the last serious turnout.

Despite being instinctively republican: we could have done worse – and very probably, one might say inevitably in view of the candidate(s), will do next time. What a perfectly logical moment to segue into a more mature constitutional arrangement, particularly as whatever value our tradition of elitist privilege ever had has now ebbed away. Unfortunately, our sense of purpose having ebbed away also, we are effectively prevented from taking the steps necessary to make such a politically evolved adjustment to our way of life. However, as nationhood is in the process of being consigned to the dustbin of history, one wonders whether it would make any difference in any case.

The survival of the Monarchy as an institution . As long as ordinary people don’t twig, the monarchy can carry on for another 100 or so years living their lifestyle( if they’re lucky that is and no one lets the cat outov the bag about the whole sick show)

Being Queen is actually a job and when you think about it probably quite stressful too. At 87 I’d reckon I didn’t need all that and I suspect she may think the same. She could also have health issues too that affect her ability to do the job.
It obviously makes sense to hand the job over to someone who was a very close friend to Jimmy Savile.

His reasoning is that a majority of people think Charlie is a bit of a plank, anyway (I quite like the bloke, myself), so maybe Liz thinks it’s time to do one and leave him carrying the can of preciding over the total collapse of the British chunk of the global economy when the history books are written.

I suspect that HRH is pretty well clued up on International Politics, (despite whether her PM’s would ever take heed of her wisdom of years, or not). Were she thinking of quitting while she was ahead, it might well be because she is privy to quite a few lil’ National Secrets that we proles are not…..

If so, then this may be a massive hint that us ordinary Brits in 2014 are going to be living in ‘very interesting times’.

If she quit…I’d be very nervous indeed !

Horses trotting down Pall Mall, happy peasants lining the streets dressed in Union Jacks smiling and waving, crazy hats (Phil Treacy also needs to eat). We colonials eat up this razzamatazzy royal stuff, and at least we no longer have to provide the jewels. Great distraction from the retail sales figures.
