At the End of the Day

Having done some interminably stupid things myself of late, I thought I might devote a little light-relief and then rather more heavy time tonight to demonstrating that, in the overall macro scale of things, The Slog’s personal daftness output is not far above homoaeopathic.

It’s hard to describe just how angry I feel about the mediacentricity of the Metropolitan Police…especially their latest foray into Twitter. But a week or two in, the Plods involved are so pedestrian (plod, feet, beat…oh, please yourselves) that I’ve decided – as I usually do in the end – that merciless ridicule is the only option open to Slogfrog the Irascible. This is the latest in a series I’ve been posting over the last few days:

ScreenHunter_55 May. 16 17.45You have to be well over 50 to get the joke, but as a starter for ten, I suggest you Google the surname.

Those of you who managed to catch up with Nigel Farage on LBC earlier today will not have been shocked to discover the ignoramus lurking one millimetre below the surface of the Cavalry Twill brigade’s Chosen One. He was, to be as fair as possible, all over the place. Both the left and right wing press have been having a field-day since the interview with Farrago’s inability to tell his Roma from his Romanian – or indeed grasp the difference that two decimal points can make to the maths involved in potential immigrant numbers – but there is one tragic sense in which all the Nige-knockers are completely wrong.

Despite the obviously boorish density of their Leader, UKip continues to ride high in the polls.

The real message for the Bubble Establishment here is this: they have neglected and ignored the feelings of the average decent Brit for so long, such people would be prepared to vote for any clown in order to give their Masters a kick up the jacksie.

And in that context, Coco Farage is as good a conduit as any other available twerp.

Now to a third dimension of crass stupidity – but this time on a par with Stalinist showtrials between 1928 and 1951. And you’re right, this really is no laughing matter.

I have always maintained my informed belief that Stuart Hall was for many years a serial groupie-shagger, but not an opportunist rape-merchant and paedophile. At the bloke’s original trial, the only guilty verdict the British KGB managed to pin on him contained the recurrent mantra “with girls as young as nine years old”. Hall held out against that allegation for a long time, but eventually caved in.

Now – just as with Dave Lee Travis – the obsessive-compulsive CPS has come back for a second bite at the jugular in Stuart Hall’s neck….and missed by a quite staggering margin.

At Preston Crown Court today, Hall was found guilty of the only charge to which he’d pled guilty…sex with a 13 year old girl – although he wasn’t cognisant of her real age.

He was cleared of 15 rapes and four other indecent assaults by a jury of eight women and four men.

I highlight and paint in red that sentence for these reasons:

* He was cleared of everything he denied

* Two thirds of the jury was female

* This verdict was reached despite a previous blaze of publicity branding him a sex-beast.

Throughout this continually unfolding saga of ignorant condemnation, the one element I find most alarming is the unwillingness of Britain’s politico-legal authorities to tighten up the definition of ‘child’ in relation to the female gender.

For me, it always was and always will be the development of adult sexual organs along with the onset of menstruation. After that has taken place, there are hormones racing around the body that render the term “paedophile” a massive hypocrisy.

To be clear on the subject – and ever-wary of those who would brand me a misogynist – I hold the exact same  view about the need to firm up definitions of adulthood in relation to overwhelmingly male teenage crime. There seem to me to be astonishing double standards in the desire of some to give blokes the right to vote at sixteen…and yet claim they do not know right from wrong at fourteen.

There is a very real need now for our culture to examine itself….and in particular, to revisit the motives behind this witch-hunt of anyone and everyone who worked at the BBC…and had sexual intercourse with a member of the audience.

I do not believe that Stuart Hall deserves to be in prison, any more than I think Max Clifford (a man whose values and ethics are antithetical to mine) is guilty of all the charges that landed him in a cell for eight years.

One guilty verdict out of 20 charges against Mr Hall is hardly what one would call “beyond any reasonable doubt”.

But I have no doubt at all that Harriet Harman sleeps soundly in her bed at night. It is her repressively perverted view of men that has been the biggest single catalyst in this 21st century British phenomenon, the demonisation of the male sexual urge. However, this is not the sort of minor consideration that ever bothers our Hattie.

I would like to think she is sad at the irony in all this: that her inflexible ideological stupidity may yet lead to the triumph of the world’s most evil news organisation over the British tradition of objectivity in State broadcasting. But she shares genes with Lord Longford, and so I hold out little hope for that likelihood.
