Linux is the kernel, make your own … I run Linux Mint for convenience now but I have a dedicated back up of my own compiled Linux that I can drop in and use.

Search -> Linux from scratch, got a few hours then learn how to do it yourself.

After the kernel is booted you can set up your whole OS on the back of that kernel.

Sent you an email yesterday guess the hacker got that then. The content of the email was along the lines the powers that be to rule over us are clamping down harder and harder on the slaves. Had a torrid 4 days, but now I have a supa-dupa new evolved network with a dedicated subnet away from the ISP.

Protect yourself people … they want to spy on you as control but for you to only speak when spoken to by one of them.

Oldnis….. no it’s definitely a MAC…. just in the same way my car is a beemer….. I’ll be long dead before some “russian” wastes his time fooking with my computer…. and in the meantime I won’t be staring at my computer and thinking…. what is this shit !

I was happy to sell my soul to Apple but at least I won’t let the twats at Microsoft steal my sanity…..

Kfc. Quite right, I too ought to have spotted the sign-off was different. We all know not to open emails unless we know the sender but in this case the trusted sender had been hijacked. Oh well, that’s a new experience which will stop me being so trigger happy, I’ll be more observant in future.

Don’t be ridiculous. Apple accounts are just as open to misuse as any other. All you get with an Apple is a more expensive computer that is even more tied to Apple than Microsoft.

Microsoft is copying Apple in the attempt to lock everyone into their “App Store” rubbish. Best of luck using your Mac without A/V software; one day the Russians will realise that Mac users are an excellent target (as a group) because they tend to be so complacent about their machines.

Not very good with all this new clicknology.

Reminds me of my Dad.
When I was about 13, I watched my Dad do his invoices of an evening, longhand multiplication. For weeks I nagged him, “get a calculator Pop.”
He ignored me.
I got fed up watching him waste his time, so I bought him one out of my pocket money.
” Jeysus.” He said, ” These fecking things are terrific.”

For 3 weeks I, smiling, watched him check each & every longhand calculation with the calculator, before he trusted the thing.

The tables are now well & truly turned.
I say to my sons : “how do you do this or that on the laptop yokeax ?

They turn round, & fingers clicking at light speed, sit back after a few seconds & go “There y’ are Pops, sorted”

“Great, thanks, now show me HOW you did it”
” No idea mate, I just did it”

GGGGRRRRHHHH.

Time & clicknology & er, women, come to think of it, move way too fast for mortal man’s comprehension.

I think that deserves another pint.
It’s brilliant sunshine where I am. :)

I just tried to login with my Google account and then remembered that I spent the last week spraying weed killer over the google/facebook/yahoo/yootoob conglomerate and realised that I was completely alone here in the stratosphere. So I login with my Russian friend at Facebook who subs me an alias based on Murmansk university where we both studied the life science of plants and where we both got terribly drunk together. It gives me a logon account to places that matter

I don’t have a Win8 smartphone, but I think it uses Internet Explorer 10 for browsing. I think this has the SmartScreen filter that will warn about phishing attempts and malicious websites.

After opening the email purporting to come from John, which was not from him at all, my thanks to BillK this morning for advice on changing my email password and how to download of a bit of software to alert me to dodgy internet sites and phishing attempts. This protection runs on Firefox but unfortunately nowadays much browsing is done on the smartphone, running on Windows 8, so I don’t know if that leaves one vulnerable.

Well, actually it was JW’s mail account. Gmail doesn’t show the originating IP address. All Gmails have a similar header to the one you analysed, showing Google at Mountain View as the originator.
JW’s account was taken over and misused for a phishing attempt.
