At the End of the Day

It’s been a warm, soft and altogether beautiful day here today. I’m tired, but largely as a result of honest physical work. As I write, on the horizon as seen through my kitchen window, a blood red setting sun and slate-grey clouds are perfectly matched in a display of nature’s best.

But in the unnatural world beyond these confines, almost everything is as usual suffused with the overactive right brain hemisphere of Man.

I find myself baffled by Baroness Warsi’s Cabinet resignation over Gaza, if only because she disagrees with ‘Government policy’ on the issue, whereas I have extreme difficulty understanding what on Earth that policy might be. From my perspective, the general Camerlot approach seems to be, “Well, I abhor all this violence on my telly, and I think it should stop”. Warsi of course wants condemnation of Israel….and that’s a view with which I’d concur if the same condemnation was applied to Hamas. Trouble is, Ms Warsi is reverting to her tribal loyalties. This is the curse of our age.

Meanwhile, as David Cameron made his position clear on the issue by opting for photo opportunities at a Portuguese fish market, his deputy Nick Clegg said that face-to-face discussions were the only way to stop the conflict. Ignoring this comment from a bloke with zero relevance to them, the Israelis and Hamas opted for indirect discussions using Egypt as the go-between.

But let’s end on a positive note: Sandra Bullock has been named Hollywood’s highest-earning actress. The 50-year-old beauty topped Forbes’ rankings of highest paid female movie stars after making a reported $51 million  between June 2013 and June 2014…..largely due to her leading role in the Oscar-winning movie ‘Gravity.’

Jennifer Lawrence came in second with an estimated $34 million following her successful role in the ‘Hunger Games’ franchise, while Jennifer Aniston came close behind with around $31 million.

Gwyneth Paltrow was placed fourth with an estimated $19 million following her work in ‘Iron Man 3’, and last year’s top-earner Angelina Jolie tied fof fifth place with Cameron Diaz after making an estimated $18 million over the 12-month period.

Scarlett Johansson came sixth with an estimated earning of $17 million, while Amy Adams and Natalie Portman                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           came joint seventh with $13 million.

No glass ceiling there then. Hurrah!
