Great fun all round for midweek. But I personally feel Renzo Soprano ( who must have suffered when the series was in transmission) may be wrong in his implied criticism of the imbecility of the photograph.

Perhaos the live cat was the missing moggie’s twin (?!)

Is that government borrowing rising again, last month, casting doubt on these mystical tax cuts.
Coupled with rising employment and falling tax receipts, odd that one.

1. RBS’ accounts for 2013 quote equity at being worth £75bn, which makes the UK Govt’s stake at 63% of holdings being around £47bn. So that’d pay the deficit for about 5 months wouldn’t it, since there’s no chance of any private sector company paying a premium to take them off the state’s hands.
2. LTSB’s shareholder equity in 1st half of 2014 is around £40bn, of which HMG owns 25% so that’s just shy of £10bn at current prices, which will fund the deficit for about 5 or 6 weeks. LTSB is claiming a Tier 1 ratio of 11%, which sounds pretty healthy to me. No doubt it’s really all crap as the UK Treasury’s shares must be undervalued at sale due to ‘investor sentiment’ downsides……

Of course the UK State could choose to keep the shares in public ownership to earn the sorts of returns that private sector individuals demand (15% per annum risk free come to mind?) through long-term holding of healthy UK banks??

Dreadful thought that: how could you possibly be doing right by the taxpayer by holding shares long-term as the company’s share price grows and dividend yields grow??

Warren Buffett would have you shot at dawn.

Unless you sold him the shares first and let him do precisely that for Berkshire Hathaway shareholders……
