Details are already beginning to emerge from Oldham Athletic insiders this afternoon about the truly vicious nature of the threats made against the club….which, displaying the backbone we have come to expect from major football clubs these days, has now officially pulled out of the deal to hire Ched Evans.

One Oldham board member told the BBC that an Oldham ‘fan’, having given him accurate details of his daughter’s place of work, warned that, should the club go through with plans to sign Evans, the girl would be “gang raped by activists”. That’ll be the eye-for-an-eye-tooth-for-a-tooth version of justice then. This way to the stoning, nobody throws anything until I give the word.

Thankfully, however, what supporters of Mr Evans suggested to me last night was confirmed today when the former Welsh international gave this, for me, entirely dignified statement to the media:

“…it has been claimed that those using social media in an abusive and vindictive way towards this woman are supporters of mine. I wish to make it clear that these people are not my supporters and I condemn their actions entirely and will continue to do so.”

This removes yet another plank from the flimsy story written by Suzanne Moore in the Guardian last Monday, where she attempted to suggest that the opposite might be the case. Over the last three days, the majority of things claimed by Ms Moore have proved to be false, or obfuscation by omission. So far, she has declined to comment. It would be nice, nevertheless, if she was a big enough person to condemn the threats made by the Fascinisti bullet-heads in this case. Their outlook and attitudes, it seems to me, have echoes about them of animal-rights activists a decade ago.

Sadly too, the munneeee has proved once again a deciding factor. I understand at least two and perhaps three sponsors applied great pressure on Athletic (a club which nearly went bust eleven years ago) not to do the deal. Mammon, as ever, is blind to injustice. Perhaps some will now understand what I mean when – on the subject of radical politico-cultural change  – I suggest that Starve the Beast is the only answer: make life uncomfortable for the unelected gargoyles who want to run the Government, and they will stop donating money to political Parties.

You may not be surprised about the reaction to yesterday’s Slogpost analysis of the trial, verdict and then post jail experiences of footballer and ‘convicted rapist’ Ched Evans, but frankly I have been astonished: first, by the size of the response, but secondly by the overwhelmingly positive reaction to the piece.

The Slog’s previous best for a post was 42,146 in 2011, on the subject of Geithner and Wall Street* involvement (in a caper to influence the EC in general and Berlin in particular) to ‘amputate’ Greece from the eurozone.

The Ched Evans case represents an entirely different level and type of viral interest in an issue. Based on what I’ve been able to analyse from stats thus far, its readership is more general and demographically balanced. As I write this at 6.50 pm CET, over 562,000 visitors have read the story….plus, it was posted on a day when the Charlie Hebdo attack dominated the news from early afternoon onwards – and a new Hackgate trial began at the Old Bailey. So far, 840 readers have voted about the article’s content, with over 97% agreeing fairly or very strongly with the view taken. Far from waning, the inflow of readers is growing….predominantly in the so-called Anglosphere countries where pc and feminism have had most influence: the UK, US, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

Not only do I not applaud the actions of these two footballers on the day in question, I abhor them. However – just as with the ‘paedophile’ mania of the last three years – we badly need as a culture to be more exact in our definitions…and much more discerning about the motives and broader agendas in play. I remain terrified by the ease with which even intelligent people will throw every principle of liberal democracy out of the nearest window once the Right Brain vengeance mode has been selected. And persuading them to adopt it is becoming an easier process with every year, as the think-for-yourself dimension of our once-great education system erodes further in the downpour of idiotic targets and “is it on the syllabus?”.

Basically, Cyrprus was taken out of the game, and the Turks were made lavish promises about their drilling rights in the area. Many date Wolfgang Schäuble’s break with Merkel to these events.
