Good for you Simon, as a serial small time entrepreneur starting companies then passing them on once they could stand on their own two feet I gave up on the UK over 10 years ago.

It’s a very pleasant 18 degrees here today :-)

On the very rare occasions I have to wear a tie (and as I am stricken in years, it tends to be for funerals these days) I always wear a clip-on. There are few things as funny as the sight of a would-be assailant standing there with a tie drooping over his fist for a brief moment before negotiations resume ;-)

After 30 years running a manufacturing business in the UK, dealing personally with the stupidest regulations ever invented in the history of the galaxy. Made by Brussels gold plated in Whitehall. I am giving up. I have just given my 100 ties to the local charity shop. I never intend to wear a tie again in my life. If people in the UK knew how little manufacturing and farming, wealth creation, was left in Britain they would be so very very worried. There is now no place on the UK stastictics annual return to a state how much you manufacture or export. Government do not ask so cannot tell, under the freedom of information act,

If anyone wants a tie to carry on the pointless struggle of generating real wealth in the UK they can buy an expensive silk tie from my local Salvation Army shop for a pound.

I am retiring to sunny Cyprus. Good luck to Debt Debt Debt Britain.

Now that’s a good cartoon. I get so excited when cartoonists come up with a gag which wouldn’t really work in any other medium. This is a good example. (The purest I can think of is two hippos in a pond, one saying to the other: “I keep thinking it’s Tuesday”. Trust me: it’s hilarious as a cartoon.) Sadly, I think many of the Charlie H cartoons I’ve seen are horribly clumsy and substandard – as cartoons.

Talking of excellence, Martin Honeysett, the brilliant British cartoonist, died unexpectedly at the age of 71 a few weeks ago. His mind was as active as ever, translating the idiosyncrasies of the world into genuinely amusing drawings. More than that, he was a really delightful bloke.
