In the days before word-processing and spell-checkers, my team sent a very long, technical, hand-written report for typing, before submitting it to the Board for expenditure approval. The typist erroneously typed the word “nomenclature” as “non-eclative”, which we spotted at proof-reading.
As an experiment, we decided to leave the non-word “non-eclative” in the text and see if anyone noticed. In a delightful example of the ‘Emperor’s New Clothes’, none of the directors or their minions sought to raise the issue, the report was approved and huge expenditure agreed. This was declared to be a very ‘eclative’ outcome and a new ‘team-word’ was born.

Think your suggestion JW is similar to this example.

Employer says to employee do not nickel and dime me on the overtime, the employer however recognises being nickeled and dimed because they operate that mechanism themselves. A belief I have is that when a person implies this kind of thing it is very often because that is what they themselves would do and only suggest it because they recognise that they would do this.

It is remarkable how a person if they listen to the words being said can interpret the truth.

Speaking of typing errors:

shouldn’t this sentence read:

“This is the sort of typing error that can cause major diplomatic incidents:”.

But maybe that’s just American English.

Off topic maybe but breaking. This is just what monetary reform advocates such as “Positive Money” have been advocating.
Go Iceland, lets hope that they are not found to be a nest of NVE’s and have awar declared on them!

There is the case of a legal secretary that should have typed, ‘Ipso Facto’ when actually she typed, ‘If so, fatso’…What was she thinking?
