SYRIA: Why Energocrisy meant that Assad had to go

I am indebted to Slog follower Karl Schwarz – the CEO of Nanotech – for producing the Illustration [left] confirming The Slog’s conclusion yesterday that ‘censorship is now increasingly hardwired into the apparatus of national governments globally’ and, at ‘X’, ‘there’s a lot more to come out about the Syrian coup, people….stay tuned’. As Karl’s map shows, this is an oil pipeline battle between the Russian-backed Iran>Iraq>Syria supply route, and the US-backed Qatar>Turkey and on to EUNATO route.

“Energocrasy” is simply Slog shorthand for mendacious hypocrisy in relation – as ever – to energy access. The nature of Biden’s two-faced Secret State role in all this [see right] was summed up as he ‘issued a stark warning on Sunday to the rebel factions that unseated Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, cautioning against extremist behavior and pledging U.S. efforts to maintain regional stability’. Classic Blairite BS: ‘first of all create a mess, and then present yourself as the solution to it’.

Nice work if you can get it in the New World disorder.

The fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria is extremely complicated. Assad ruled Syria
for over twenty years as head of the Arab Socialist Ba’ath Party. Before that, his father Hafez al-Assad ruled for twenty-nine years. The fall of the al-Assad family is the end of fifty years of Ba’athist rule. Here are the winners and losers:

Iran is the biggest loser. Their dream of a “Shiite Crescent” running from Iran to Iraq and Yemen then to Syria and Hezbollah in Lebanon is now in tatters.

Iraq is another loser because it depends on Iran.

Hezbollah is a major loser. They are already battered by Israel and have now lost the chance of support from Iran because most Iranian weapons had to transit Syria.

Lebanon is a loser because the Hayat Tahir al-Sham terrorists who now run Syria may set their sights on taking new territory from Hezbollah. But the Christian Phalangist militias there will fight back so a new civil war there may emerge.

Russia is a loser in the sense that it lost a client in al-Assad and lost air and navy bases in Syria. But it is also a winner because now it can devote all of its resources to victory in Ukraine without the distraction of Syria.

Israel is a big winner. They have already taken some Syrian territory on the Golan Heights and may seize some Lebanese territory ostensibly controlled by Hezbollah up to the Litani
River in Lebanon.

Turkey is another big winner. They now control Northern Syria around Aleppo and Idlib in what looks like an effort to reconstitute the old Ottoman Empire, which fell in 1922. The Kurds have lost to the extent that the Turks have gained power, but other Kurdish territories further east may have greater autonomy.

Finally, the U.S. is a winner because they opposed the al-Assad’s, support Israel and wanted to give Russia a black eye in the region.

Here’s the last thing to know: Every early assessment of winners and losers may completely reverse in a year. The U.S. may find it has empowered a new Taliban. U.S. regime change operations in Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan and Ukraine have all failed badly and left chaos or war in their wake. Syria may be no different. If the U.S. actually wants chaos, they may get it.

abrogard @ 8.09, nor me at first. The only explanation I can come up with is that Assad was happy to host two pipelines, whereas the new rulers of Syria will be told to host only the US backed one.

This caught my eye…

Simply put, until last week, who was seen as the responsible party for Syria’s situation? Who was to blame for all its sorrows, instability, poverty, and general mess? It was Assad, and by extension, his main backers: Russia and Iran.
Who is responsible and accountable for Syria as of today? Well, it’s the West’s ‘rebels‘, the US Erdogan and Israel. In one fell swoop, one mostly failed state went from being under Russia’s list of headaches and liabilities to being on America’s.

A different perspective eh?

The Davos Propaganda machine voiced through the BBC, and others has now crystallised its position on events in Syria, which is roughly; a defeat for Russia, a victory for the west, and the end for a wicked dictator.

The reality is rather different, and rather more complicated, there are several players, and several vested interests in Syria, plus a variety of religions, and ideologies. Simplicius gives a detailed take from a variety of different sources:

The dust hasn’t settled yet, and many politicos in The West are incapable of accepting that the orthodox processes which they have followed so diligently, cannot cope with current geopolitics. There was an intriguing talk on the BBC yesterday morning several guests discussed the state of the world, notably a former head of MI6 Sir Alex Younger, and Chatham House’s Armida van Rij, what was fascinating was not what they said, but their haplessness. They have only just realised that history didn’t end a score of years ago, consequently they were all at sea, and appeared to be searching for some solid ground from where they could make sense of what is happening.

These previously powerful, and, no doubt, still influential, people were the very epitome of mid-wits, clever enough to fill in a spread sheet, and speak in front of a Powerpoint, but are absolutely incapable of understanding current events , because these events do not fit into the orthodox processes and systems which have brought them high office, and index linked pensions.

These are the type of people who have destroyed the West’s industries, created our anti-democratic political systems, promoted mass-migration, and who have failed to understand the histories, cultures, and core of the nations they have unfortunately taken command of, their lack of insight will lead us off the cliff of civilisational collapse, if they aren’t stopped.

I can’t make sense of it. They both go through Syria so both need Syria. Why does the Yankee one traverse Turkey instead of taking to the sea the way the Russian one does?
