You’re the Leader, Dave: start leading, or you’re going to lose



What the country wants is accountable leadership. Cameron has offered only unaccountable gamesmanship. Now he’s in trouble.

New polls out today confirm two things: Brown is in danger of becoming credible again, and the vast majority of Tories want Iain Duncan-Smith and David Davis back on the Front Bench. In this context, both Cameron and Osborne have looked like two straws in the wind over the last week.
Most people who are clever wind up being too clever by half – and hated. People who are not clever (but try to be) just look bereft – and become a laughing stock.

It’s no surprise to anyone awake that the ‘choice’ available to voters this time around is between two scheming sociopaths on the one side, and two clowns on the other. If the People reject both, they will go up in my estimation: contrary to what Ken Clarke thinks, dead-heat anarchy (as the prelude to root and branch reform) is precisely what Britain needs.
