Silliest media comment on the Budget was by Anatole Kaletsky (it was always going to be him or Finkelstein) which noted that ‘Alistair Darling has seen the light, even if it may be the wrong one’. If you think it was meant as wit, then you’d be wrong: it was meant as a serious comment. Words like train and tunnel spring to mind.

Best comment was also from the Times, by David Wighton: ‘Too cautious about the finances, too optimistic about the future’. Spot on.
