I realise this is highly unlikely given the readership of The Slog, but has anyone seen the Guardian print version’s front page this morning? It’s a classic:
‘TORIES SOUND ALARM AND REMOVE CHILD BENEFITS FOR ALL’
I spotted this while up Tesco this morning. It’s amazing how progressive journalists call admen ‘the hidden persuaders’. In fact, we are the public persuaders, and they the disguised manipulators.
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) would reject that headline out of hand on the basis of it being empirically, obviously, palpably and perniciously unclear. It uses ‘all’ to suggest ‘everyone’….as in ‘nobody’. Rather typical of The Guardian these days.
I think the Guardian should change its name to something that more accurately reflects its role in our contemporary media set. The Garbled, perhaps. Or The Guardia Civile. The Gaudeamus. Or just its anagram, A Haunted Rig.
