Just make sure you do not have more than £85k in there. The issue of course becomes if there is a run on Santander, you have all your eggs in one basket

Oh Boy, being poor has it’s up side. lol I think the person who invented Money (middle eastern races), knew what they were doing. They were not farmers, growers, cattle tenders- in fact they were lazy ( just like the bankers now a days). So instead of getting involved in creating his/her food chain, they held up what may have been gold at first (middle eastern cultures still prefer Gold to money) did the ‘snake oil sales pitch’ and it took off. It was the poor and trusting, honest, hard working people who gave food and goods for promises on paper. Oh wow look millennias later and….

I promise to pay the bearer…$$$$$£££££€€€€€.

    Dead already!
Other interesting news re: funny things to do with money. Charities who play the victim card are investing their/our . who ever money it is now, in to ethical projects. Oh they are doing it NOW after being caught out.

Charities=big business=money to be made by making victims.

    Ray,
I too have a co-op bank account…though I do not really use it.
I had been with Abbey for years and now of course it is Santander.
I have put all my worldly goods into the 123 Santander account.
That means I have closed investment and isa accounts and put everything into 123.
It is the best return I have found.
A lot of customers have done the same.
    Please check it out….
If any one out there can add to this I would be grateful.
I did find it odd and scary living with all my worldly goods in my current account.
I have found no better return as of yet!
I am still sleeping well at night…..so far!

Cyprus is important, but remember RBS – was 3 hours away from total shutdown and had to beg Alistair Darling for a bailout otherwise they were going to shut down chip and pin and all the cashpoints.

Just like in the US, the bankers managed to convince government that if they failed, they would take society down with them and that they had no choice but to open the liquidity taps wide….

From the Big Picture article: ““I have heard assertions made with great force and passion that …………. the skies will darken; the oceans will rise; nuclear winter will be upon us; and the world as we know it will end.”

This is the template used to frighten us into falling into line. Sounds reminiscent of the whole global-warming hysteria, now being increasingly invoked at every opportunity and every context possible. One such was in the NYT recently claiming that ‘climate change’ in the guise of drought had wiped out previous civilisations 3000 + years ago – what such authors overlook is that this only goes to show that [1] climate change has always been with us and [2] if it is indeed caused by man-made emissions, what caused it 3000 years ago and many times throughout planetary history?

Still worth jailing them. Jailing burglars does not eliminate theft, but you don’t get many members of the public suggesting that rewarding burglars would be more effective.

There is only one option on the table if you buy into what is being discussed here, keep only essential working funds in your bank – convert all other deposits to cash and precious metals, get a safe and a big dog.

If JW and others on this forum are correct, lifestyles are going to change radically, the rot is there for all to see, the tipping point and final descent into chaos will be far more difficult to predict. Are you ready?

I must agree with kjh where to go, that’s the only reason I have not moved my account but in saying that I do have accounts at Nationwide. But i’m not to smug about that after reading the slog’s article some months back. The best I can do is to try and keep one step ahead by following sites such as The Slog, Zerohedge, Market Oracle and a number of others.

You cannot eliminate greed by jailing the greedy, ideas and ideologies exist in the overall consciousness of society as a whole. If you jail one banker another will pop up even more obsequious and clandestine in their behaviour than the ones you imprison.

Unfortunately things will only improve when people see welfare of their peers as a priority above that of enriching themselves. With society configured as it is, this is a vain hope.

Greed, rent seeking and rising inequality are symptomatic of a dying paradigm, so says the author of ‘The Great Wave’ which is a convincing historical account of the rise and fall of various market based economies throughout history as described by the historical economic data, correlated across countries and societies. The arguments within are well supported by the data and this book is very useful to contextualise the current situation.

All the current phenomena we observe support this dying paradigm view, clueless vacant politicians, monetary debasement, apathetic population obsessed with minutia and rising social tensions.

Ray, I got this leaflet too. Re point 1 “exceeds a particular value”…
So if I get a notion that it’s all going pear-shaped and try to transfer my balance away from the Co-Op, that phrase is vague enough for them to block ANY amount I try to withdraw. Neat, eh?

The Co-op bank (don’t laugh) which is my current bank as I closed my accounts a couple of years ago with Santander due to spains banking problems, have just sent in the post today changes to all accounts leaflet. Makes interesting reading on some of the new wording which is all about THEIR RIGHTS when making payments out accounts.
    1. We (coop bank) may refuse to make a payment if a payment exceeds a particular value.
    2. Further down under another bullet point they also say if you do not have available money by way of cleared funds or an agreed overdraft they can refuse to make a payment. My point is what is a particular value payment all about if there is no issue with funds in the account?
    3. If we (coop bank) believe that you may have tax obligations in other countries, we may disclose information about you directly to those tax authorities, or to HM Revenue & Customs, which may share the information with other tax authorities. I like the words WE BELIEVE.
