Sorry John, but this post is a bit silly. It has the potential to go viral ;-)

WordPress is built by ‘community volunteers’ in order to serve hundreds of millions of users – all for free. If it’s too technical for a particular user, there are literally hundreds of other free blog platforms out there which range from really complicated to dead simple – just a Google search away. There are also many paid platforms which provide a level of service and customer support more suited to people who are willing to pay for it.

This blog post is the equivalent of screaming at a food bank that despite the fact that their food is given away, the staff are volunteers and that they have many different types of ‘customers’ to serve, you demand that they provide the type of food which is specifically suited to your own personal dietary preferences, otherwise you will take your ‘custom’ to another free food bank.

What do you think that their reply would be?

as an occasional commenter using disqus sites, I once had a problem with their advertising of my personal information. so I complained to ‘customer services’ and they replied in a truly esoteric ‘American-computer-management’ speech. so I told them I didn’t understand anything they had written and could they do for me what they would have done for a French or German complainer – and respond in the complainer’s own language. and they did. I got a reply from them in ‘normal English’ English. I can’t say I fully understood everything they said – but they did at least try an treat me like a human being.
so maybe not a bad idea from carroccio1958.

Why don’t you buy your own domain/hosting and install WordPress there… then it’s up to you if you want to ‘update it’ or not. These are available as we speak ;-) theslog.uk, theslog.co.uk, theslog.org, theslog.net, theslog.club, theslog.co, theslog.me, theslog.now (I like that one). Just a thought.

… very true, and not just hosting sites, software in general has been gradually moving away from helpful and user-friendly to annoying and unfathomable. Aged 50, I am from the “old-school” of programmers and I despair at almost all modern software and young programmers (with whom I come into contact with). Perhaps, as John bemoans, Aspergers, or a result of the generational dumbing-down? Or the fact that kids are (apparently) taught MS Office (instead of assembler and BASIC). Whatever the reason, things will, in my opinion, only get worse from here, as the generation which grew up with the ZX81 etc. prepares for retirement.

They’re all the same, these hosts – it’s all those damn nerds wanting to show how smart they are. And they’ve forgotten the golden rule of software programming – if you change something, something else is gonna change that you don’t know about until it happens.
The software programmers do their stuff and then it’s up to the testers to test it. But the testers get bored….. And then – whammo – garbage, irritation, frustration and gawd help you if you try to change your host…. Allez, bonne chance, mate.

There are times when the vocab of a three badge stoker is the only recourse and this seems certainly to be one of them. It has cadence, an underlying rhythmic ferocity and crystal clarity. Even the f***wits at WordPress will have little trouble in understanding that you are, ‘if not actually disgruntled, then certainly very far from being gruntled’.

Have they been taken over by TalkTalk, by any chance, as I too am at Level ‘F’ today?

Why has no-one worked out yet that the Asperger Mind and the Neuro-Typical Mind (as they call us) do NOT work in harmony and that there needs to be a Go-Between Area, so that each can understand that the other doesn’t understand..
